Wooden construction aims to reach 10% of the market in seven years

A

challenge for sustainable growth

Currently, wood construction represents only 0.7% of the Spanish market. However, the sector’s associations have set an ambitious goal: to reach 10% over a seven-year period.
This growth will require investment, regulatory adaptation and a strong commitment to the industrialization of the construction process.

Industrialized wood and hybrid building

The model that has the greatest potential is hybrid construction, which combines wood with steel or concrete to take advantage of the best of each material.
Light wood with great thermal behaviour can significantly reduce the execution time and associated emissions, while other materials provide structural resistance and inertia.

Technical and training challenges

To achieve this goal, the sector demands:

  • Specific regulations for wood structures and mixed construction.
  • Technical training for architects, engineers and manufacturers.
  • Sustainable supply chains with forest certification (PEFC, FSC).
  • Promotion of public aid to improve competitiveness and reduce manufacturing costs.
